Plastering

At SSS Design and Build, we specialize in plastering, also known as skim, which involves applying a thin layer of mixed gypsum, water, and sand onto bonding, BlueGrit, or new plasterboard surfaces. Plastering offers numerous advantages over tape-and-joint methods. Let’s delve into the differences:

Plastering entails the application of British Gypsum’s ‘Thistle MultiFinish’ in two layers or coats, covering the entire wall. The wall is either bonded prior to plastering or has plasterboard fixed using screws or dot-and-dabbed with Plasterboard Adhesive. The plaster is skillfully troweled to provide a flawlessly clean finish. This results in a smooth and flush surface, reducing the need for extensive filling during painting. A skilled plasterer can help you save on decorating costs as there will be fewer touch-ups and paint layers required on the perfectly prepared walls.

On the other hand, tape-and-joint involves fixing plasterboard directly onto the wall using screws or dot-and-dab. Instead of plastering, jointing compound is applied to the board joints and where the boards meet the wall. This technique is commonly used in large-scale new build projects. However, tape-and-joint may require additional layers of paint to cover the joints, leading to higher paint costs and potentially visible lines, necessitating sanding by decorators.

At SSS Design and Build, we offer a comprehensive range of plastering services, including entire house replastering. Additionally, we provide stud-wall creation using either metal or wooden studs, tailored to your specific needs and requirements. Our experienced team ensures impeccable plastering work, delivering top-notch results for your projects.
